Studium Publiek is an artist-led public program practice, working in dialogue with museums, galleries, schools, and cultural spaces to develop tailored programs that institutions often do not have the capacity or mandate to build internally.

Programs are shaped around an inquiry-based approach rather than a fixed outcome. ​

Each program establishes a shared starting point, like timeframe, materials, points of reference, and ways of working, so participants work from a common ground while remaining free to follow different paths within it.

Rather than moving toward predetermined results, the programs unfold through guided exploration. This allows ideas to emerge through engagement, testing, and reflection, responding to what surfaces in the work rather than imposing conclusions in advance.

The working method often moves through a cycle of looking, making, discussing, and returning. Participants are invited to observe closely, work with materials, pause to reflect, and revisit earlier decisions with new understanding.

The programs typically conclude with moments of reflection and articulation, through conversation, writing, or informal sharing rather than formal presentation or display.

Artists and art histories are introduced at specific moments as reference points: to open questions, provide context, or complicate assumptions. They function as tools for thinking, helping participants situate their process, investigations, and emerging ideas within broader artistic, social, and material conversations, rather than as models to imitate.

Guidance throughout is attentive and offered through questions, prompts, and without prescribing direction or outcome supporting in decision-making, while leaving space for individual approaches to develop. Group discussions are facilitated to encourage articulation, comparison, and shared inquiry, without pushing anyone toward agreement.

The program is adapted to context and audience and can take place in studios, galleries, classrooms, or public spaces.

The structure responds to the setting and partakers, shaping how making, discussion, research, and writing are integrated.

Across all formats, the emphasis is on developing comfort with uncertainty, the ability to think, question and make informed choices, and the capacity to speak clearly about one’s process and thinking, skills that extend beyond a single session or project.
